With just one month remaining before the third annual Kenbridge Wild Game, Stew and BBQ Cook-Off, organizers have begun the final countdown towards the big Memorial Day weekend event!
The Cook-Off event originate two years ago as a precursor to the town’s 2008 Centennial, with local resident Steve Israel and his ‘Wild Bunch’ of volunteers leading development efforts.
Not only was the first event comprised of multiple activities a big success, the second year Cook-Off combined with the Centennial Celebration helped organizers raise thousands of dollars for Lunenburg Charity Fund Inc., which in turn donated the funds raised to local charities.
On Saturday, May 23rd, the town will once again open its doors to local residents and visitors alike for another great family event!
The big day begins with a Memorial Day & Children’s Parade from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Wild Game, Stew & BBQ Cook-Off from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. At 4 p.m. the Cook-Off Awards will be announced.
From 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. there will be Children’s Games and activities including Jonathan Austin – juggling and magic show, Katie Laibstain – balloon art, stilt walking, and more, Organ Grinder with performing monkey, Rock Climbing, Bouncy Things, Face Painting, Pony Rides, Carriage Rides, Barrel Train Rides, Soybean Box, Pigmy Animal Display, and Clowns.
A special Memorial Day Remembrance Service will take place from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., and The Holiday Band Beach Music Concert will run from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. – so bring your lawn chairs and be ready for a great show!
While the event was held in the field adjacent to the town’s community center the last two years, new construction at that location forced organizers to move this year’s event to the town’s industrial park located on Main Street.
Entrance to the Cook-Off event will be free of charge, but tickets to the Beach Music show and dance will be $20 for adults and $10 for children 12 and under.
Raffle tickets for prizes donated by local businesses will be $1 each, with the same ticket price for the quilt raffle.
Food prices will be $6 per plate (consisting of your choice of meat, two side dishes, dinner roll and dessert) for those eating onsite, and $6 for food to go servings. Beverages will be sold with water and soda costing $1 each, $2 per cup of beer and $3 per glass of wine.
Souvenirs will also be available, including commemorative T-shirts and ‘koozies’ as well as a limited number of Centennial souvenirs.
So mark your calendar for May 23rd, and come on out to Kenbridge for a ‘wild’ time. Not only does the event offer great fun for the whole family, proceeds raised during the Cook-Off will go directly back into the community through deserving local charities!
